Chikoo and dates shake is a gluten-free and sugar-free milk-based drink. This fruit is naturally sweet in taste, therefore no need of adding any sugar to this recipe.
Chikoo is also known as Chickoo or Sapota. It is a kid’s friendly fruit due to its sweet taste and soft texture. They enjoy this shake very much. Chikoo is native to Mexico, however Spanish people first introduced sapota in India. It is now grown in many states of India- Karnataka, Gujrat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Andra Pradesh.
This fruit is mostly used in the making of milkshake, smoothie, jam, halwa, burfi, ice cream or even kheer. But the best way is to eat the fruit as it is. Other healthy and refreshing drink you may like Golden Milk, Almond Kesar Milk, Strawberry Smoothie.
How to make this Chikoo and Dates Milk Shake recipe at home
To make this healthy and delicious chikoo shake, we need four fresh and over riped chikoo or sapota, chilled milk and dates, that has soaked in little milk for about half an hour. Blend all the ingredients in a blender till it becomes smooth and creamy in texture.
I have used low-fat toned milk which is good for health but to make it more rich and flavourful use whole milk instead. You can also add some dry fruit if you like while blending.

How to choose chikoo or sapota for this nutritious shake
- Choose fresh, soft, and ripe nice brown colour chickoo for this recipe. Unripe sapota is hard, less sugary in taste, therefore not perfect for eating.
- To check if chikoo is ripe or not, press the fruit with fingers. If it feels soft, means it is ripe and good to use.
- If you found that chikoo is hard and unripe, cover them with newspaper and put in the rice bag for 2-3 days or leave them on the kitchen counter for 4-5 days to get them ripe naturally.
Is chikoo good for weight loss?
Chikoo is a very nutritious fruit loaded with essential vitamins, mineral, dietary fibre, and antioxidants. It is not directly affecting our weight but indirectly helps us in losing body fat. Chickoo is high in dietary fibre which regulates bowel movement and keeps the digestive system healthy. It reduces constipation and helps in removing toxins from the body. 1. Wash and chop dates and soak them in warm milk for half an hour. Also, wash and peel off chikoo, remove seeds and cut them into small equal pieces.
2. Now transfer chikoo in a blender, add soaked dates and grind to make a smooth paste.
3. Finally, add chilled milk and blend again for about a minute or two.
4. Smooth and creamy chikoo dates milkshake .
5. Pour in the serving glasses. Garnish with dry fruits if you like and serve immediately.
