Light and soft-textured these Millet Cookies Recipe is made with Jowar or Sorghum flour. It is a perfect treat for an evening time snack with a hot cup of tea or an after school snack for the kids.
Jowar is globally known as the “new quinoa” for its gluten-free and whole-grain goodness. It is called Sorghum in English. Jowar or Sorghum is a staple food item in India. It is mainly used to make Rotis, bhakri, cheela, dosa, idli, biscuits, cake, etc.

The process of making these millet cookies is very simple and quick. It does not require any machine or hand beater. A small wire whisk and a bowl are enough to prepare this recipe.
Coconut and jowar cookies require 10 ingredients that are always available at home. These coconut flavoured cookies will be ready in 30 minutes.

Ingredients used in making of jowar coconut cookies
Jowar flour– used market bought flour. It is gluten-free if you want, replaced it with wheat flour.
Butter – used room temperature homemade unsalted butter. If you are using salted butter then skip salt from the recipe.
Sugar– ground regular granulated sugar and use in the recipe. To make it healthier replace white sugar with jaggery powder, coconut sugar, or dates sugar.
Sesame seeds – gives an attractive look and increase the nutrient content in the cookies.
Leavener – Baking powder and baking soda acts as leavener and helps in getting a light soft texture of the cookies.
Step by step preparation of jowar coconut millet cookies
1. In a bowl, add unsalted butter, whisk it well till it becomes light.
2. Add powdered sugar gradually and cream with butter till the mixture become light and fluffy. It will take 2-3 minutes.
3. Put a sieve and sift jowar flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add coconut powder and cornflour, mix well. Now add 1 tbsp of milk and make a soft dough.
4. Cover the dough and put it in the refrigerator for about half an hour.
5. Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 160 degrees Celsius for about 10-15 minutes.
6. Take out the dough from the refrigerator. Make small equal size balls with hand or using one tbsp measuring spoon. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
7. Now roll one side of each ball in sesame seeds and arrange them on the baking tray. Bake them for 15-16 minutes in the preheated oven.
8. Remove the cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack.
9. Let them cool completely and store them in an airtight container.
