About the recipe
The original recipe for these crinkled cookies requires icing sugar to roll the cookies. But I used desiccated coconut that helps in reducing the sugar content as well make it more flavourful. Moreover use of wheat flour (atta)and gram flour(besan) makes them more healthy and nutritious cookies.
I have also added a drop of food-grade orange colour to give them a classy orange look but it’s totally optional. You can skip it if you want.
Ingredients used in the making of eggless orange crinkle cookies with wheat flour
- Whole wheat Flour I prefer to use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour as it is nutrient-rich and a healthier choice.
- Besan– gives a nutty taste and a light texture.
- Sugar use white powdered sugar or raw sugar.
- Butter I have used unsalted homemade butter. Use room temperature butter and beat it with sugar till the mixture become light and fluffy.
- Orange Zest. It releases oil and gives a nice orange flavour.
- Orange Essence to get a strong orange flavour orange essence is used along with orange zest and juice.
- Fresh Orange Juice homemade fresh juice gives the best taste and flavour.
- Salt enhances the flavours.
- Chemical Leavener- use a combination of baking soda and baking powder to get a nice rise of the cookies and cracks on the top.
- Desiccated coconut powder – to reduce the sugar content, I rolled the cookies in coconut powder instead of icing or confectioner sugar.
