There are many different ways of making pumpkin puree at home. You can roast the pumpkin and then grind into a paste or pressure cook it or steamed it and then make a puree.

Here, I am sharing with you the steamed method of making pumpkin puree. For making puree we need fresh and well riped yellow coloured pumpkin. Wash and peel it and slice into thin pieces.

Once the puree is made we can store it in the refrigerator for 4-5 days and 2-3 months in the freezer. You can use it in making sweet and savoury dishes. We can use it in making cakes, breads, pie, scones, biscuits, cheesecake, poori, paratha, soups,etc. It can be made in big batches and then stored in the freezer for later use.

While making pumpkin puree we don’t add any sugar or salt to it so that we are free to use it in making of both sweet and savoury food item.

Pumpkin puree is also very nutritious food for litlle babies. Just make sure that prepare it fresh when ever you want to feed it to the babies.

To get the best taste always use well ripe yellow coloured pumpkin for making puree.

Should I add sugar or salt to my pumpkin puree?

If you like you can add but I will suggest you not to do so. Because the plain puree you are free to use in making both sweet and savoury dishes.

How long we can store fresh homemade pumpkin puree ?

You can store your fresh homemade puree for up to 4-5 days in the refrigerator or freeze it for up to two to three months. 

*PRO TIP: If you are freezing your pumpkin puree, I recommend freezing it in large silicone ice cube or muffin trays. Once they are fully frozen, transfer them to freezer.

Step by step preparation of pumpkin puree at home

1.Wash and peel of the pumpkin. Cut into equal size thin slices.

2. In a steamer add water and bring it to boil.

3. Once the water starts boiling put a plate over it and place pumpkin pieces.

4. Steam them for 10-12 minutes on medium high heat. Switch off the flame anmd let it cool completely

5.Now transfer pumpkin pieces into  a blender and grind into a smooth paste.

6. Store in an air tight container and put it in the refrigerator. They stay goos for 3-4 days in the refrigerator and upto a month in the freezer.

  3. You can also roast or toast pumpkin to make its puree instead of steaming.
