Early during my career as a dietician, I realized that a Nutritionist can advise you about what to eat and how much to eat, but may not be able to teach you the perfect way to cook that healthy meal. A ‘Master Chef‘ on the other hand can teach you how to prepare that perfect recipe but won’t be the best person to help you figure out how much would be more than enough for your dietary needs. The Chef is inspired most importantly by the ‘Taste’ whereas for a Dietician it is always about your ‘Health’.
You can either have a Healthy diet that your dietician has prescribed, or a Delicious meal that you learnt from a Master Chef, and never both. Or can you? That’s when it occurred to me that though these two seem like the two opposing sides of the same coin, there has to be a way to have a perfectly balanced diet with a taste that indulges your taste buds. There began my quest and I have spent a good part of the past decade in my pursuit of finding the perfect way to prepare that healthy & delicious food. This is the story of my journey to Healthically Kitchen.
Meet Babita
My name is Babita and I am a nutritionist and a foodie presently living in South Delhi with my two lovely daughters and a caring husband. My family is my biggest strength and have helped me stay motivated. I have done post-graduation in nutrition sciences and worked for some time as a full time dietician with VLCC. Now I work as freelance consultant dietician (my contact details are below in the post). I am a full time homemaker and a mother, neither of which have stopped my zeal for learning new things.
I am a Vegetarian and very passionate about Cooking and Baking. I love to cook and bake with a healthier twist so as to let everyone enjoy every dish without any guilt. As a nutritionist, I have experienced how people without proper knowledge either about the ‘science of dietetics‘ or about the ‘art of healthy cooking‘ end up making bad dietary choices harming both their health and lifestyle. My experiences as a dietician and my mostly self-taught art of cooking have convinced me that yes, there indeed are ways to prepare cuisine that is perfect for our health and does taste yummy.
This weekly blog is my attempt to describe my journey and all the recipes that I have learnt and perfected over the years. I hope to share my experiences so that everyone can enjoy tasty and healthy dishes without compromising their health.
What You Will Find @ Healthically Kitchen
Mostly, I cook Indian vegetarian and vegan recipes, but also like Italian, Chinese, and Mexican food. I prefer to use of locally and easily available fresh ingredients like whole grains, millets, healthy alternatives with moderate use of fat and sugar in my recipes. These recipes have been perfected by me after trials and tested by friends and family.
My goal is to not to endorse any specific weight loss diet; because I believe “moderation is the key, not the omission“. To make healthy food choices and eat balanced diet is the way which will give you long term health benefits and more sustainable lifestyle too. We can indeed purchase lots of tasty food that are available in market, but without knowing the actual ingredients that have been added to them to make them attractive and tasty may result in causing unintended harm for our health.
Therefore, though it is OK to eat or buy food occasionally from outside, but it can never substitute a healthy and delicious meal prepared at home that will give you a feeling of satisfaction and show how much you care for your family health. I will share my recipes along with tips and tricks of healthy cooking, with every fine detail of each and every critical step to help you learn all that will be required to prepare a healthy, nutritious and delicious meal at home.
