What is bread pakora
Bread pakora is a popular North Indian breakfast or tea time snack recipe mostly prepared during winter or in the rainy season. Bread pakora is also known as bread fritters, a deep-fried snack or appetizer made with bread slices. We can make it in 2 ways- with or without stuffing. In traditional bread pakoras, usually boiled and mashed potatoes with some spices are used for stuffing. Then these stuffed bread pieces are dipped in a batter and deep fried. We use a batter made of besan or a mixture of besan and rice flour to prepare these delicious bread pakoras.
About these stuffed mini Bread Pakora recipe
Bread pakora that we buy from market are generally made with white bread and potato stuffing. But to make it healthy and nutritious snacks for kids I, used here whole wheat bread slices. And the stuffing is prepared with homemade low fat paneer slices which makes it a delicious high protein snack recipe. Only a few spices are adding in small quantity so that any age group of kids can enjoy it. It’s easy to make, and you can serve it as an appetizer or a tea-time snack.

As you know, it is a deep-fried snack and high in calories, especially, in fat calories. Deep-fried food is not recommended to eat on daily basis but yes, occasionally or during weather changes, you can consume it but, in a limited quantity. Also, this bread pakora is high in nutrition as compared to traditional bread pakora.
Traditional bread pakora is made with white bread and potato stuffing inside. But the recipe I am sharing today is made with whole wheat bread and paneer. Both are energy, protein, and fibre-rich food item and a healthier alternative to white bread and potato.

- This snack is a good source of protein as it contains homemade paneer and besan which are high in protein and low in fat. Protein is essential for building and repairing muscles and tissues in the body during growth period.

Step by step preparation mini bread pakora for kids
1.In a bowl mix besan, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, roasted cumin seeds powder, and curd. Mix well once then add water little by little and make a smooth batter.
2. Batter is of neither too thick nor too thin, it should be medium thin consistency. Keep aside.
3. Now take 2 bread slices, on one slice apply green chutney, and spread it evenly. On another slice apply tomato ketchup and spread evenly.
4. Now cover one piece with another and cut it into four set of pieces diagonally.
5. Place a ½ inch thick triangle shaped paneer piece inside of each pair and press together so that the corners stick together, keep it aside.(check video for directions)
6. Ready all the pair in the same manner and keep them aside.
7. Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan on a medium heat.
8. Take one pair of bread and gently dip into the besan mixture and then slide into the hot oil.
9. Let it fry for few seconds and then flip to other side. Cook the other side for few seconds too and then take it out to a plate.
10. Fry rest of the pairs in the same manner.
11. Now all pieces are fried once, let the oil heat again for few seconds on medium high. Then again slide 2-3 pieces into the oil and fry them till they become crisp from both sides.
12. Strain extra oil and remove them to a plate, Serve warm with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

Serve these tasty bread pakora without potato at breakfast or evening tea time with spicy green chutney or sweet tangy tomato sauce accompanied with a hot cup of tea or coffee. Also, they can be served as an appetizer or starter at special occasions like birthday parties or get-together.
Tips and tricks
- The batter for making pakoras should be of medium consistency not too thick or thin. A thick batter will make its texture too soft. On the other hand, the thin batter will not coat properly and absorbs a lot of oil.
- Use whole wheat or multigrain bread for a healthier option.
- The oil should be hot when you slide pakoras in it. If it is not enough hot pakoras absorb a lot of oil and do not become crispy in texture.
- Chutney provides a unique taste to these pakoras and doesn’t require the addition of any spices for stuffing.
