Easy Homemade Apple Pie With Crumble Topping -A delicious dessert made with sweet apple filling and crispy whole wheat flour crust. This apple pie can be served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped topping and caramel sauce!
First, wash, peel and chop apple into small piece.
Now transfer them to a pan and put it on a low flame.
Add jaggery powder, white sugar, cinnamon powder,lemon juice and mix well altogether.
Cover the pan, and cook it for 3-4 minutes or till apple becomes slightly soft. They should not be mushy. Stir in between for even cooking and to avoid sticking at the bottom.
In a bowl, mix corn flour into water and keep aside till required.
Once the apples become slightly soft, add corn flour mixture to it. Now stir it continuously and cook further 1-2 minutes or till the mixture starts thickens.
Switch off the flame and let it cool completely.
Making of pie base or crust
In a mixing bowl add whole wheat flour, icing sugar, almond powder, salt, and vinegar. Mix them once and now add chilled butter cubes.
Mix gently butter with the dry mixture till all the butter is melts with flour and the mixture becomes like a bread crumbs consistency.
Now add 1- 2 tbsp chilled milk to bind the dough, don’t knead it.
Take a pie pan with removable bottom and spread the mixture evenly on the bottom and sides.
Lightly press with hands so that it will stick nicely. Use a spatula or a flat bottom bowl to even out the base.
Now cover it with a plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 30-40 minutes.
Making of crumble topping
In a bowl, add whole wheat flour, almond powder, brown sugar and chilled butter. Mix them gently with hand till it becomes a bread crumbs like consistency. Cover it and refrigerate till needed.
Blind Baking of pie crust
Meanwhile preheat oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 10-15 minutes.
Once the pie base is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator, prick the bottom and sides with the help of a fork and place it in the preheated oven.
Bake it for 10-12 minutes and then take it out from the oven. Let it cool completely.
Assembling of pie and final baking
Once the crust and pie filling is cooled completely. Pour filling over the base, spread it evenly.
Cover it with the crumble topping mixture.
Place the pie pan in the preheated oven and bake it for 20-25 minutes or till the sides and top crumbs becomes golden in colour.
Take out from the oven and cool it for 5-10 minutes.
Cut into pieces and serve warm. ENJOY !

1. Use firm apples so they don't become mushy after cooking.2. Add coarse almond meal to the crust and top crumble to get crunchy bites.3. While making the crust base don't knead the mixture just combine lightly otherwise it makes the crust hard.4. Use a tart or pie pan so that it is easy to remove the pie after baking.5.
