It is suppose to be a healthier version of dessert as compare to cakes and pies. Apple crumble is also known as British pudding and mainly prepared using a crumble mixture of all purpose flour, butter, oats and brown sugar that is sprinkled over the apple layers.

Making this gluten-free crumble recipe at home is easy and quick. It does not need any expertise in baking. First, you have to arrange apple slices then cover it with the crumble mixture. Bake in the preheated oven till the crumble becomes golden in colour. After that, cool a little bit and ENJOY with a scoop of ice cream, custard or pudding.

They have a good amount of zine and selenium that helps in fighting infection and are a good source of antioxidants.

Apple oats crumble is a delicious dessert recipe that can be enjoyed warm or cold according to your choice. I prefer to eat it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or with a little whipped cream.

Once it is baked we can also refrigerate it for later use. Wrap it with a plastic sheet or aluminium foil and refrigerate. Microwave it for 1 minute before serving or bake it for 5-10 minutes at 150 degrees celsius.

  • Quick oats and jowar flour– oats and jowar flour are gluten-free healthy options for this apple crumble recipe. If you want you can use half oats and half all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour for making crumble. Rolled oats can be easily replaced with quick oats.
  • Brown sugar and jaggery powder – For sweetness. These are rich in minerals and healthier option over white refined sugar. You can also try it with coconut sugar, palm sugar, raw cane sugar according your choice.
  • Cinnamon powder – It gives the filling a warm and spiced flavour. You can also add some cardamom or nutmeg powder to enhance the flavour.
  • Butter – unsalted homemade fresh butter adds richness and moisture to the topping. For the vegan version use coconut oil.
  • Salt – To enhance the sweetness.

Step by step preparation of Apple oats Crumble/ Apple crisp

1. Preheat oven at 160 degrees Celsius for about 10-12 minutes.

2. First peel the apples and cut into thin slices, squeeze lemon juice and put it aside.

3. Now take a oven safe glass bowl, grease it base and sides with 1 tbsp soft butter.

4. Then sprinkle half of the brown sugar. Arrange sliced apples and sprinkle cinnamon powder. Cover with rest of the brown sugar and put it aside.

5. Now in another bowl, take oats, jowar flour, jaggery powder, baking powder, salt. Add soft unsalted butter  and gently mix it till it well combine with oats mixture.
