- Quick oats and jowar flour– oats and jowar flour are gluten-free healthy options for this apple crumble recipe. If you want you can use half oats and half all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour for making crumble. Rolled oats can be easily replaced with quick oats.
- Brown sugar and jaggery powder – For sweetness. These are rich in minerals and healthier option over white refined sugar. You can also try it with coconut sugar, palm sugar, raw cane sugar according your choice.
- Cinnamon powder – It gives the filling a warm and spiced flavour. You can also add some cardamom or nutmeg powder to enhance the flavour.
- Butter – unsalted homemade fresh butter adds richness and moisture to the topping. For the vegan version use coconut oil.
- Salt – To enhance the sweetness.
Step by step preparation of Apple oats Crumble/ Apple crisp
1. Preheat oven at 160 degrees Celsius for about 10-12 minutes.
2. First peel the apples and cut into thin slices, squeeze lemon juice and put it aside.
3. Now take a oven safe glass bowl, grease it base and sides with 1 tbsp soft butter.
4. Then sprinkle half of the brown sugar. Arrange sliced apples and sprinkle cinnamon powder. Cover with rest of the brown sugar and put it aside.
5. Now in another bowl, take oats, jowar flour, jaggery powder, baking powder, salt. Add soft unsalted butter and gently mix it till it well combine with oats mixture.
6. After that spread this crumble mixture over the apple layer and put it in the oven.
7.Bake it for 15-20 minutes or until the crumble become golden in colour. Take it put. Slightly cool it and then serve warm with ice cream or custard.
Serving suggestion
Serve warm apple oats crumble with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream or chocolate sauce. Apple crisp can be serve warm or cold as a dessert or as a evening snack.

Tips and tricks
- Choice fresh, soft and sweet apple for the crisp. If we use green apple then need to add more sugar or jaggery in it for a perfect taste.
- Apple slices should not be very thin or thick.
- Use coconut oil for a Vegan version.
