How to pop amaranth seeds at home
Making this energy bar is so easy and needs only a few ingredients. These are no baked energy bars made with popped millet without using oats.
Ingredients used in the making of Popped Amaranth Seeds & Dark Chocolate Energy Bar
- Dark chocolate (70 %)
- Popped rajgira or amaranth seeds
- Dry fruits and seeds
- Sweetener
- Virgin coconut oil
- Vanilla essence
- White til seeds
In the making of this healthy millet energy bar, I used popped rajgira seeds which you can easily pop at home or buy from the market. You can also watch my video to check how to pop rajgira seeds at home. You can also replace it with another popped millet if you want.
As it is a chocolate bar, I added Morde brand dark chocolate with 70 per cent cocoa powder which is a healthier option than using chocolate loaded with sugar.
Coconut oil gives a nice smell and glossy look to the chocolate. Unsalted butter can also be if used you are not following a vegan diet. I added almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds and chia seeds you can also choose other nuts and seeds according to your taste.
Rajgira seeds dry fruit chocolate bar is a no-bake bar, we just need to melt chocolate in a double boiler or using the microwave and mix all the ingredients. Let it sit for a few hours and then cut into pieces.

- Amaranth is high in protein and other essential nutrients like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. Also, this is the only grain that contains vitamin C.
- It contains lysine, an essential amino acid required in the absorption of calcium in our body. Also, a rich source of calcium contains 2x more calcium than milk and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.
Step by step preparation on Amaranth Seeds & Dark Chocolate Energy Bar or Rajgira Chikki
- First, chop the chocolate and put it aside.
2. Take a saucepan and boil water in it. Once the water starts boiling, put the bowl with chocolate on the saucepan. The bowl should be bigger than the saucepan so that the steam does not escape from the sides.
3. Gently start mixing the chocolate till it melts completely.
4.Now, add coconut oil and jaggery powder and mix till they are well combined.
5.Add chopped nuts, chia seeds, vanilla essence and mix well.
6.Take off the bowl from the heat and add popped rajgira seeds. Mix well till all is well combined.
7. Transfer to a square tin lined with parchment paper. Spread it evenly, sprinkle some til seeds over it and let it cool completely for 1-2 hours.
8. After it cools down, cut into the desired shape and enjoy these protein-rich, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan energy bars.
9. Store them in an airtight container and they stay good for 2-3 weeks at room temperature in the cold weather otherwise put them in the refrigerator.

Enjoy these super healthy refined sugar-free energy bars as a mid-day snack or a quick breakfast when you’re rushing off to work. Pack them in the kid’s tiffin for a sweet treat. It is also a good energy-packed meal during travelling.

Tips and tricks
- To melt chocolate, use either the microwave or double boiler.
- Completely cool the rajgira seeds before adding them into the chocolate mixture if you popped them at home.
- If jaggery is not in hand can use honey, maple syrup or brown sugar as a sweetener.
- Finely chop nuts before adding.
