Steaming corn is a fast and easy recipe and needs mainly two ingredients sweet corn cob and water. We can steam corn in a big pan, steamer, or using a pressure cooker as according to your convenience.
About this recipe
In the older time, fresh young sweet corn cobs are dipped in a big vessel full of water and then boiled for few minutes. Then after they cool down a little bit enjoy the naturally sweet flavour of the corns.
Steaming and boiling corn cobs is a simple way to enjoy fresh corn when in season. We can add some herbs and spices and give them a different taste and flavour. Adding oregano, chopped mint leaves, red chilli powder, cheese, chat masala, a mixture of butter and black pepepr or black salt are some ways to flavour sweet corn. Also, take out the corn from the cob and make corn chaat or add in the salad.

Store steamed cobs in the refrigerator for 3-4 days in an airtight container or wrap them with plastic wrap. To keep it a long time put it in the zip lock bags and store it in the freezer. You can also take out the corn from the cob and then stored them in zip lock bags. They stay good for 5-6 months. You can add them to the soups, salad, tacos, sandwiches etc.
Step by step preparation of steamed sweet corn in pressure cooker
- Remove husk and extra fibre from the corn cob. Wash it properly and cut it into 2-3 pieces depending on the size of the
- Transfer them to a pressure cooker. Add enough water to cover. Close the lid and pressure cook it for up to 2 whistles.
- Once the pressure is released, open the lid and strain water. Let them cool a little bit.
- Now take a lemon slice, dip into salt mixture and lightly apply on the corn cobs.
- Serve them immediately.
Serving suggestions
